One of the major shocks that I went through when switching from high school to college was the amount of homework that college has. This is since there is less in-class time in college then there was in high school they make up for it by assigning students more homework to make sure that the lessons stick. 

This can result in the student overworking themselves if they don't split up the work well or procrastinate. A personal story of when I did this was when I procrastinated starting an essay until the day before it was due. This led me to spending four hours over the course of that day rushing to get the essay done while also juggling all of the other responsibilities that I had for that day.

All in all, it's much easier and will save you a lot of stress is you split up the work for assignments and projects more.  Even just setting aside half an hour each day to work on assignments can make college work a lot easier to deal with.
